JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—The Jacksonville Humane Society is also seeking families to bring home dogs, cats and kittens for sleepovers during Hurricane Matthew.

They are asking families to serve as “Storm Troopers” and host one of their adoptable dogs or cats for a three-night sleepover from Wednesday, Oct. 5 to Sunday, Oct. 9.

This is a great opportunity for our dogs to be with a family inside a warm home instead of in outdoor kennels during the winds and rain.

Willing families are asked to stop by JHS, 8464 Beach Blvd., anytime during open hours of 12:00 pm to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, October 5th or between 8:00 am and 12:00 pm on Thursday, October 6 to select a dog, cat or kitten and then return the animal on Sunday from 12 to 4, with some flexibility.

JHS staff members and volunteers will assist you in selecting a dog or cat to best fit into your home. “Storm Trooper” families are encouraged to spoil their sleepover guests and share pictures on social media using #JHSStormTrooper. Of course, if you fall in love during the storm, you are welcome to adopt!

“JHS is not evacuating for the storm at this time, and will take all proper measures to ensure the comfort and safety of our animals. But there’s no better way to ride out a scary storm than with a loving family. Our dogs had so much fun last time, that our cats got jealous. So, now, we’ve extended the promotion to include them as well!” said Denise Deisler, executive director of the Jacksonville Humane Society. “We are grateful that we can always count on the compassion of the Jacksonville community.”
