JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, a man was struck and killed by a vehicle on Norwood Ave. early Friday morning.

Police report a Chrysler Sebring was traveling northbound on Norwood Av. when it struck a pedestrian who was standing in the roadway. The driver swerved to the right in an unsuccessful attempt to avoid the pedestrian. The vehicle then left the roadway and struck a concrete utility pole.

According to authorities, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver was transported to UF Health with non-life threatening injuries.
