Two dead in major crash on Main St. Bridge

The woman was pronounced dead on the scene and the driver of the hit vehicle was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. — Two people are dead after a major crash on the Main Street Bridge in Jacksonville Sunday afternoon.

According to the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department, the crash happened around 1 p.m. on the southbound lane of the bridge.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said a woman was traveling northbound over the Main Street Bridge when she crossed over into the southbound lanes and hit a vehicle.

The woman was pronounced dead on the scene and the driver of the hit vehicle was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

JSO said one of the cars involved in the accident was a Geico vehicle.

At this time authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash and have not released the ages of the victims.

The accident caused traffic in both directions of the bridge to be shut down for several hours. The road has been reopened but drivers are still encouraged to use caution.
