2 injured after Monday afternoon crash on I-295

Both drivers received only minor injuries in the crash. A 3-year-old passenger in the sedan was not hurt in the crash.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Two people were injured in a crash Monday afternoon on I-295 near Commonwealth Avenue, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

An SUV driven by a 29-year-old man was stopped on the outside lane of I-295 and attempted to merge back onto the outside lane, FHP said. As the SUV tried to merge onto the road, an oncoming sedan driven by a 39-year-old woman hit the back of SUV.

The sedan overturned and landed on its roof while the SUV stopped back on the outside emergency lane, according to the FHP.

Both drivers received only minor injuries in the crash. A 3-year-old passenger in the sedan was not hurt in the crash.

Authorities reduced traffic to one lane for some time as crews cleared the area. The road has since reopened.
