FHP: Early morning crashes in Jacksonville kill two

The Florida Highway Patrol is reporting two traffic fatalities, one on the westside and one in NW Jacksonville.

The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) responded to two deadly traffic crashes on Tuesday in separate parts of Jacksonville.

One of the accidents involves a pedestrian.

  • NW Jacksonville

Troopers first responded to a crash on I-295 NB around 1:15 a.m. at New Kings Road. They say that a Silver Nissan Sentra was traveling northbound when, for an unknown reason, the vehicle ran off the roadway and collided with the inside and outside barriers.

Troopers say the Nissan came to final rest in the outside lane as a black Chevrolet Impala was approaching from the curve. The driver of the Impala was unable to avoid the Nissan and crashed into it.

Antuan Lenard Shaw, 33, of Tampa was killed in the crash. The driver of the Impala was taken to UF Health.

FHP is looking into whether or not this crash was alcohol-related.

  • Westside

Troopers also responded to West Beaver Street near Otis Road around 1:30 a.m. regarding an accident involving a pedestrian. According to them, a Chevy Silverado was driving westbound on U.S. Highway 90 and struck a pedestrian in the roadway due to the area being dark.

The victim, Jason Stewart Kethem, 31, was pronounced dead on the scene.
