JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Employees and customers inside an Arlington shopping center say they are lucky to be alive after a car careened into stores just after noon on Friday.

Witnesses tell First Coast News an elderly woman was attempting to park when she lost control of her car and ended up inside two stores at the Merrill Station Shopping Center.

According to the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department, the driver of the car was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries from the scene in the 8100 block of Merrill Road.

Joseph Kim, an area manager for Metro PCS, says his employees and those inside the next door salon were extremely lucky.

"One of my employees was walking in and it actually hit her- the side grazed her. She doesn't seem to be too hurt," Kim said.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office did not release details of the crash at the scene or what charges the driver will face.

Kim said the damage inside the Metro PCS was significant but hopes to be back open by mid-next week.
