Florida's Erin Jackson did not participate in the Olympics Opening Ceremony because she's recovering from an illness, the speed skater tweeted Friday morning.

"Super bummed that I'm not able to participate in the Opening Ceremony for my first Olympic Games. After being sick this week, staff decided it would be best for me to stay back and rest," Jackson tweeted adding that she watched a live stream of the ceremony from her room.

The Ocala native was thrust into the national spotlight rising through the ranks in Jacksonville's roller derby league.
