JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jaguars are bringing back one of their top internal special teams players.
The team announced the re-signing of veteran linebacker Lerentee McCray on Monday.
McCray's new one-year deal comes with an option for a second season, a league source told First Coast News on Friday.
McCray was signed to a one-year deal last offseason and was one of the Jaguars' top assets in the game's third phase. He also saw snaps at SAM linebacker and defensive end.
McCray produced 12 tackles and 1.5 sacks during his first season with the Jaguars. He was Jacksonville's special teams nominee for the Pro Bowl this past season.
McCray is from nearby Gainesville, Fla. and played college football at the University of Florida.
The 27-year-old linebacker is only the second internal unrestricted free agent to re-sign with the Jaguars. The team re-signed wide receiver Marqise Lee on Thursday. Jacksonville also re-signed exclusive rights free agents, wide receiver Shane Wynn and offensive tackle William Poehls, this week.
McCray returns to a special teams group that has been upgraded over the last few days. Newly signed safeties Cody Davis and Don Carey and tight end Niles Paul are expected to enhance the Jaguars' special teams unit this season.
