New Jaguars guard says Jacksonville will win Super Bowl, calls Bortles a 'franchise QB'

The 6-foot-6, 325-pound lineman is a big man and his goals are relatively large as well.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - New Jaguars guard Andrew Norwell didn't hold back his ambition on Thursday during his introductory press conference in Jacksonville.

The 6-foot-6, 325-pound lineman is a big man and his goals are relatively large as well.

"[The Jaguars] are on the verge of something great," Norwell said. "Bringing me down here, we're going to look forward to winning the Super Bowl in 2018, cause that's what it's about."

Norwell, 26, is in Jacksonville to block his way to a Super Bowl championship ring. He plans on making strides in his new surroundings, further improving an offensive line that overachieved through injuries and adversity last season.

The veteran lineman hasn't missed a snap in 38 games. He is durable and consistent.

During the press conference, Norwell put an emphasis on his dependability at the left guard position. His presence will bring stability to a position that has been a revolving door for several years.

His reported five-year, $66.5 million contract was a big price to pay for the Jaguars. The All-Pro guard looks to reward the franchise with his blocking prowess.

"I play with consistency," Norwell said.

"I lay it down on the line every day. It's not because I have to, it's because I want to. I have so much passion for the game and it's just an incredible honor to be here."

The offensive lineman has blocked for Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton for four years. Like Newton, Norwell's new quarterback, Blake Bortles, has the ability to extend plays with his legs.

Norwell's experience with Newton will help him get adjusted to Bortles' style of play.

"Just the factor of not knowing what he is going to do back there, you always have to finish [the block] to the whistle and that's what made me into the player that I am today," Norwell said.

"Just finishing every play. Especially with Cam, blocking for Cam, you never know what he's going to do back there and he's a playmaker. I look forward to protecting this franchise quarterback and that's what they brought me here to do; protect [Bortles] and I'm looking forward to it."
