JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jaguars extended a second-round restricted tender to running back Corey Grant on Monday.

The running back will become a restricted free agent on March 14 if he does not sign the team-issued tender. The player and the team also have the ability to negotiate a long-term contract.

The tender enables the Jaguars to match any offer Grant receives in free agency. If Jacksonville declines to match an offer sheet signed by Grant, the Jaguars will receive a second-round pick as compensation from his new team.

The running back initially joined the Jaguars in 2015 as an undrafted free agent out of Auburn. He has since become the team's primary kick returner, a standout gunner on special teams and an all-around gadget player on offense.

Grant's elite speed has led to several highlight-reel plays on special teams and offense.

Grant was the catalyst for two huge punt-fake runs this past season. He was also highlighted as a receiver during the first half of the Jaguars' AFC Championship Game loss to the New England Patriots.

During his first three NFL seasons, Grant produced 414 rushing yards and four total touchdowns.

The Jaguars currently have four running backs under contract. Last year's first-round pick, Leonard Fournette, leads a group that also features T.J. Yeldon, Brandon Wilds and Tim Cook.

If Grant were to return to Jacksonville, he would probably enter training camp as the team's third running back on the depth chart.

The Jaguars also extended exclusive rights tenders to offensive tackle Williams Poehls and tight end Ben Koyack.
