UPDATE: University of Kentucky will play Georgia Tech on Saturday, Dec. 31.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- The Taxslayer Bowl has narrowed their list of teams who will spend their New Years Eve in Jacksonville down to four, a Bowl source tells First Coast News.

The source confirms this years game will match up teams from the Southeastern Conference and Atlantic Coast Conference. The ACC representative will either be Georgia Tech or Miami, while the SEC will be represented by either Kentucky or Texas A&M.

The game annually hosts an SEC team while the opponent is either a team from the ACC, Big 10, or Notre Dame. Last year's matchup featured Georgia against Penn State.

Kentucky could be an big draw for fans of the Big Blue as the Taxslayer Bowl would be the highest profile bowl the Wildcats have been to in a long time.

Miami Athletic Director Blake James told the Miami Herald that he believes the Hurricanes are either Orlando or Jacksonville-bound for their bowl game.

“Orlando and Jacksonville are both options. My belief is we’ll end up in one of those two cities. It would be great for our fans in the state of Florida because it would be a shorter and easier trip to support our team," James told the newspaper.

“Our guys have put themselves in position to be part of a great bowl no matter who selects us.”

A short drive also makes Georgia Tech an attractive team for the Taxslayer Bowl, as does the Yellow Jackets win over rival Georgia last week.

“They should travel really well,” Taxslayer Bowl president Rick Catlett told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

“Those are the kinds of things that you look for from the bowl perspective.”

The last time any of these four teams played in Jacksonville was 2007, when Georgia Tech lost to West Virginia 38-35. Miami was last in the game in 2000 when they beat Georgia Tech.

Texas A&M last played in the old Gator Bowl game in 1957 while Kentucky has never played in the Jacksonville-based bowl.

The TaxSlayer Bowl will be played on December 31 at 11 a.m. at EverBank Field. The game will be televised on ESPN.
