JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The First Coast tradition of hosting the Florida-Georgia football game is living up to its billing as fans over the weekend started arriving for Saturday's showdown at EverBank Field.
Near the stadium scores of recreational vehicles are lined up waiting for the gates of RV City to open. The weekend flurry of RVs was to get a good position when the gates open on Wednesday morning.
"Just came in from the Westside of town, not make a long trip," said Ron Skinner who commands the 21st position along Bryan Street. The first vehicles started parking last Friday morning.
Charles Leverette is no stranger to Jacksonville, making the trip from Gainesville, something he and his wife have done for the past 15 years.
"My wife is a gator, I am a gator hater," said Leverette, who has a golf cart to navigate the festivities.
In the RV line, there are no strangers as most people who arrive early have done so for years and know those who make the trip early.
"Everybody knows everybody," said Levon Kitchens of Macon, who brought with him his wife and best friend, his bulldog named "Athens."
