Titus Harvest Dome Spectrum Church founder Pastor Rodney "R.J." Washington has passed away, an immediate family member confirmed to First Coast News.
Washington was battling cancer. He was 54 years old and had three children with his wife April.
The Jacksonville native founded the Titus ministry in 1985. The Titus Harvest Dome Spectrum Church was built in 2002. The church is located at the intersection of Atlantic Boulevard and Kernan Boulevard in Jacksonville.
"He was an engine, whatever God put on his heart, he went and did it," longtime friend Pastor Bruce Matthews said.
Former NFL star and pastor Dieon Sanders tweeted condolences, saying "We lost a good man and a dear friend."
George Davis, pastor of Impact Church in Jacksonville, called Washington and inspiration to his own ministry.
"[Washington's] favorite saying was 'to the utmost, Jesus saves," said Washington. "All of us had been praying and hoping for a miracle on this side but the miracle we got is one that's eternal."
Washington's work was seen throughout the world on television. He appeared on FOX, BET and Word Network, among other channels.
According to a biography on the Daystar network's site, Washington's congregation had grown to over 8,000 members including affiliate churches.
