Sewage backs up into multiple units at Camelot Gardens Apartments

People living a at Camelot Gardens apartments are fed up with poor and unsafe living conditions after dealing with raw sewage, again.

Jacksonville, Fla. -- People living a at Camelot Gardens apartments are fed up with poor and unsafe living conditions.

City code enforcement officers recently cited complex, formerly known as Canterbury Gardens, for sewage back-up and other violations in May.

A mother of two young children tells First Coast News, she's experienced water leaks, mold and roaches since she moved in two years ago.

"I have had a hot water heater catch fire and water went everywhere inside my apartment," she said. "Most of the water went into my son's room, they had the water removed but they never called in a cleaning crew or replaced the drywall or carpets."

Since then, she claims she and her children have suffered from upper respiratory and bacterial infections. To make matters worse, sewage backed up into her unit Saturday morning.

"I had to call the front office all day just to get someone out to snake the drain, but once again, I was left to clean up the mess with bleach and towels," she said. "Every time something bad happens you never know if it's going to take days or weeks or months for someone to come by and fix the problem."

Neighbors living in adjacent units said they had been experiencing sewage back-up as well. First Coast News reached out to management for comment and so far has not heard back.
