JSO determines 'suspicious package' is not a threat in San Marco area

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is currently responding to a suspicious package in the San Marco area on Sunday.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office has cleared a suspicious package call in the San Marco Area on Sunday, deeming the package as not a threat.

The incident occurred in the 1500 block of Le Baron Avenue at the Le Baron condominiums.

At about 9:40 p.m., police determined the package was not a threat and that the approximately 85 people displaced by the incident are safe to re-enter the building.

The package was found on the ninth floor of the condos and caused concern around 4:30 p.m. Sunday, a JSO spokesman said.

JSO evacuated all 42 units and the bomb squad started working to investigate the package.

A member of the homeowners association said the package had a return address to an ex-tenant who was currently involved in a years-long lawsuit with the association.

The association representative found the package suspicious and called the police.
