Man arrested after hours-long SWAT standoff in Northwest Jacksonville

Blake Sims was arrested on three counts of aggravated assault and one count of false imprisonment.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man has been arrested after an hours-long standoff with police at a Jacksonville home Saturday evening.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office responded to a dispute in the 6500 block of West 5th Street at around 1:47 p.m.

Police say the suspect, Blake Allen Sims, 31, had threatened a victim inside the home. When officers arrived on the scene the victim came running out of the house.

Sims also came outside armed with a knife, threatening police. He then went back into the home and police spent hours trying to convince him to come outside and surrender himself, JSO said.

After time had passed, JSO notified SWAT units. SWAT responded to the scene along with negotiators to try and convince Sims to come out of the house.

SWAT was able to use tactics to get Sims to surrender without injuring him, police said.

Sims was arrested on three counts of aggravated assault and one count of false imprisonment.

Police said he appeared to be under influence of some type of substance. No one was injured during the incident.
