GLYNN COUNTY, Ga.—Due to the severe damage caused to infrastructure on the island, the public is still not allowed to return to St. Simons Island at this time. Crews say reentry may be allowed Monday, but do not have a set time.
Georgia Power crews were able to return to the island after cleanup crews made what the county calls 'incredible progress' and are working to restore services to homes and businesses in the area.
The top priority for work crews is to restore power to the waste water system, which is severely limited at this time and creating a potentially 'severe public health issue.'
Cleanup crews continue to work to remove tress from power lines and untangle said power lines so that power can be restored.
Glynn County is still instituting a curfew from midnight Monday until 5 a.m.
Police are not allowing people on the island.
