A former Sandalwood High School student died Sunday, according to the St. Marys Police Department.
21-year-old Jacari Graham was shot once in the chest at 9 a.m. on Sunday on Pinehurst Drive in St. Marys, GA. Police are not releasing very many details, but say Graham was visiting a friend when he was shot. No altercation was involved in the crime. Graham was prnounced dead on scene.
"He was a young man who still had his whole life ahead of him," Coach Patrick Clark, Assistant Head Coach at Sandalwood High School. "Still trying to find his way in the world"
A Facebook page for the football team posted a photo of Jacari Graham with the caption: "Very sad news today. Our former running back, Jacari Graham, has passed away. Condolences to his friend and family. He was no joke on the field and will undoubtedly be missed dearly. Rest easy young man. <3 <3 #rip #stoptheviolence #saint"
"My fondest memory was at practice," Clark said. "It was one play where a young man who was probably a 100 to 150 pounds less than him and Jacari delivered a huge blow to him and just kept running, but then he came back and he helped the young man up, and said, 'Great Job. You're one of the few who had the courage to step in front of me while I was running."
Police are currently interviewing witnesses. There is no suspect description available at this time.
Hate to see this happen to someone with such a bright future. I will always hold on to the memories we had on the field. RIP brother 🙏 pic.twitter.com/9wgH4wqFyg— Eli Peters (@the_eli_peters) March 5, 2017
