Former reserve Starke police officer arrested for DUI

Police inspected the vehicle and found two open cans of beer sitting in the front cup holders. They also found a bottle of liquor half full in the back seat.

A reserve officer with the Starke Police Department has been terminated following a DUI arrest in December of last year.

On December 21, 2017, a man without a shirt frantically ran into the Kangaroo on US-301 and NW SR 16, telling a deputy with the Bradford County Sheriff's Office that someone pulled a gun on him near the Whiskey River Bar. The man pointed at a GMC pick-up truck and the deputy initiated a traffic stop.

The driver of the truck pulled over and got out of the vehicle. He was identified as Brian Davis, who was also a reserve officer with the Starke Police Department. Deputies said he had an "orbital sway about him while standing there," according to police records.

Another person was occupying Davis' vehicle. He was asked to step out of the truck and was placed in handcuffs. Davis was placed inside the patrol vehicle, police records state.

Deputies identified the other passenger as Davis' son.

Deputies inspected the vehicle and found two open cans of beer sitting in the front cup holders. They also found a bottle of liquor half full in the back seat.

In a separate police report, police said they found a 45 caliber handgun on the right side of the driver seat, matching what the man told deputies.

Davis was asked to perform a sobriety test, but he just stood there, deputies said. Deputies arrested him for a DUI. At the jail, Davis refused to submit a breathalyzer test, according to police records.

Davis faces multiple charges, including a DUI and refusal to submit a DUI test after his license was suspended.

The Starke Police Department said Davis was terminated after the arrest.
