Common Heart Condition that Can Increase Your Risk for Strokes (FCL Sept. 18)

Heart rhythm condition many adults are unaware of

Approximately 8 million people in the U.S. are projected to be affected by a common type of irregular heartbeat, atrial fibrillation, or AFib, in 2019.

As the population ages, that number is expected to grow, because the prevalence of AFib is higher in people aged 65 and older.

However, according to a new national survey, many aging adults aged 40 and older may not be familiar with this common heart rhythm problem.5

The Matter of Moments initiative is asking people to get to know the facts about AFib, a condition that increases risk for stroke by 5 times.

Cardiologist and president of the Heart Rhythm Society, Dr. Andrea Russo, and Frank, an AFib patient and stroke survivor share why it’s so important to learn about AFib, and talk about the initiative.
