JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Two boys are recovering from gunshot wounds early Sunday morning near the Jacksonville Fairgrounds downtown.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says officers who were at the fair heard multiple gunshots and were dispatched to the 1000 block of E. Union Street at approximately 12:15 a.m.

Once officers arrived to the scene, they found two boys with gunshot wounds and transported them to UF Health in Jacksonville. One boy was shot in the torso and has life-threatening injuries. The other had been shot in the leg.

Officers said the boys were walking down the street when they were hit by gunfire from an unknown location.

Residents in the neighborhood tell First Coast News they heard at least six gunshots. One of the stray bullets hit a pillar in front of a home.

JSO said there are no known suspects at this time. They do not believe the incident is gang related.
