A 16-year-old has been arrested for stabbing his parents while they were sleeping, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office reports.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A 16-year-old has been arrested for stabbing his parents while they were sleeping, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office reports.

According to police, the teen stabbed his parents in the early morning hours of Wednesday, January 10 at the Oakleaf Plantation Apartments. They were stabbed in the head and neck areas with a knife, police report.

The arrest affidavit states the parents' injuries were not life-threatening.

Police said the parents fought the teen and he fled the scene. Police found the suspect who then confessed to the crime. The teen was arrested on two counts of aggravated domestic battery.

People who knew the teen said he had dreams of playing college baseball and were shocked when they heard the news.

"He has exhibited nothing but stellar behavior with our program," said Leeanne Maronna, the director of baseball operations for the Florida Dodgers Scout Team Program. "We are very saddened and our hearts do go out to the family."

"My heart dropped and I was in disbelief, especially seeing him a couple of days before this actually took place," a classmate, who didn't want to be identified, said. "My prayers are out for him and his family and that they will recover."
