JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office has released information about the murder suspect wanted in connection to the shooting death of one woman on the Westside overnight Tuesday.
JSO is looking for 32-year-old Chad Absher. Police believe he shot and killed his girlfriend, 30-year-old Ashlee Rucker, also critically injuring her sister Lisa, 28, at the women's Cedar Creek apartment on San Juan Ave. Absher's history with JSO includes a conviction for stalking an ex-girlfriend and throwing or shooting a deadly missile into a dwelling. He also was arrested in February of this year for trespassing, DUI, and driving with a suspended license.
First Coast News spoke on Wednesday with the father and an uncle of the women shot. Both men said family, friends, and even police had urged Ashlee Rucker to leave the roughly-five-year relationship countless times. Family said Absher had begun beating Ashlee about four months after the couple met.
"I just spoke with her last week," her uncle Doug Freeman said. "and stressed the same thing: You need to leave or he's going to kill you."
Ashlee's father Roger Rucker called Absher a "chameleon," suggesting that he could be convincingly charming before changing tone.
"[He] praised [Ashlee] at first," he said. "Like she's the most beautiful thing in the world.
"And then she's a skank, she's ugly, 'I don't even know what I'm doing with you'," the elder Rucker finished, painting a picture of emotional and physical abuse.
Absher is wanted for murder, attempted murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is considered armed and dangerous.
If you see him or know his whereabouts, call JSO or Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
