ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office arrested Kevin Ferrer, 25, after a string of incidents that occurred throughout one neighborhood on Saturday night.
SJCSO said it all happened within 20 minutes.
Around 7 p.m. Saturday, the SJCSO was tipped off by a neighbor about a home burglary in the Heritage Landing neighborhood.
Ferrer then led police on a car chase where he was driving chaotically into yards, also side swiping a deputy's vehicle. Officials say a bicyclist was also nearly hit, but he jumped off his bike in time and was not injured. However, Ferrer drove over the bike and it damaged the vehicle, forcing it to stop.
The SJCSO said a foot chase ensued. It was during this time Ferrer broke into a home on Lake Monroe Place threatening a couple inside. Witnesses say a man was stabbed in the chest. Officials say he had to be life flighted to the Orange Park Medical Center in critical condition. His wife was also stabbed, but suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Ferrer then took off in a sports car from their home in front of deputies, starting a second chase. This time he drove in between two houses along Welaka Way straight into a pond behind the homes. Deputies arrested him and took him into custody.
Ferrer has been booked into the St. Johns County jail and he is facing charges of fleeing or eluding police, aggravated battery, two counts of kidnapping and false imprisonment, burglary, and vehicle theft. He's being held on more than $400,000 bond.
