An American Airlines flight headed from Miami to Chicago made a safe emergency landing at the Jacksonville International Airport Tuesday afternoon, flight officials say.
Matt Miller, spokesperson for American Airlines, says a maintenance issue forced the plan to land; specifically, a passenger spilled a soda on an electrical item in the main cabin. He says the plane made the landing at Jacksonville just to be safe.
Staff on the plane reportedly reacted quickly and resolved whatever issue was created. Miller says the Boeing 737 landed safely and taxied to the gate. He says the airline apologizes to their passengers for the inconvenience.
As of 6 p.m., a crew was looking into the issue on the plane and working to restore it to working order.
No injuries were reported in the landing.
