Jacksonville Sheriff's Office employees returned to headquarters following a brief evacuation on Wednesday.

A suspicious package was initially delivered to an off-site location and brought to JSO headquarters because it contained a threatening note addressed to a state employee, Sheriff Mike Williams said.

Following the arrival of the package, JSO issued an evacuation.

Police x-rayed the package, which then raised their level of suspicion. The package was taken off site and employees returned to the building.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement was called to JSO headquarters to assist in the investigation and removal of the package. JSO's bomb squad also helped to remove the package.

Employees who were removed from the headquarters before noon were provided with shelter from the heat with the use of Jacksonville Transportation Authority buses.
