PALATKA, Fla. -- The The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an apparent aggravated battery that happened inside the Putnam County Jail.
According to deputies around 1:20 a.m. Monday morning corrections Deputies were alerted to unusual behavior inside one of the cells, which was occupied by two inmates.
Deputies rushed to the cell and discovered that one of the inmates had been attacked by the other and was unconscious. Deputies performed first aid on the inmate until Putnam County EMS arrived and transported him to Putnam Community Medical Center.
The injured inmate remains in critical condition at this time, authorities report.
The Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit, along with the Homicide Investigative Unit of the State Attorney’s Office, is investigating.
The inmates, who are both adult white males, are not being identified at this time.
