MIAMI - The Florida Department of Health has lifted part of the Zika Zone in Miami Beach, Gov. Rick Scott announced Tuesday.

The newly cleared area is about three miles and runs from 28th Street to 63rd Street between Biscayne Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, Gov. Scott said at a news conference.

The health department hasn't detected any cases of local transmission in the area in more than 45 days.
The remaining Zika zone in Miami Beach is about one and a half square miles, from 8th to 28th Street.

"DOH now believes active transmissions of Zika are only occurring in the southern part of Miami Beach and the Little River area and we must continue to take aggressive mosquito control measures so we can soon lift these remaining areas," Gov. Scott said in a statement. "DOH has made resources available to Miami-Dade County to increase mosquito abatement efforts, including aerial spraying. All of these resources should be taken into consideration by local officials and it is crucial that every decision is based on what will best protect our residents and visitors, and most importantly, pregnant women."
