JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Donna Marathon Weekend kicked off Saturday morning with its annual 5K and 10K races. More than 3,000 people came to the Prime Osborn Convention Center downtown to take part in the races to help finish breast cancer.

Saturday’s 10K winner came all the way from the UK, and until recently, didn’t know what the Donna was.

Mikey Neville said he felt a special connection to the cause because of his 4-year-old daughter’s own battle with cancer.

“We traveled from the UK about a week and a half ago to undergo a course of treatment for Snowy,” Neville said. “We saw the pink banners across the city and looked it up and realized it was a special race and we wanted to be a part of it.”

A total of 275 athletes participated in both the 5K and 10K races and are also taking part in either the marathon of half-marathon Sunday as part of the “Booby Trap Challenge.”
