An unloaded gun that was found inside a car used to drop a Sandalwood High School student off was reportedly stolen from an unlocked car in Clay County.

The gun was stolen from a vehicle in Clay County in October of 2016. The owner has been notified that the gun has been recovered, however, it has to be run through various databases to make sure it was not used during the commission of a crime.

The 16-year-old former Sandalwood High School student who had the gun on campus has been arrested.

During the lunch period, the School Resource officer was patrolling the faculty parking lot when they saw a car that wasn't supposed to be in the lot. The officer approached the car with the security guard and recognized the driver to be a 16-year-old former Sandalwood High Student. A female student was in the passenger seat.

Due to a strong marijuana smell, the car was searched and in the trunk sat an unloaded gun and a large knife.

The female student said the gun belonged to the former Sandalwood High student and that she had purchased the knife as a gift for him off of Amazon a few days prior. A magazine and two rounds of ammunition were found in a bag in the trunk. Two other rounds of ammunition were found in the front compartment of the car.

One small bag of marijuana was also located in the car, as well as some cigarettes and a small blunt.

The former student was arrested and is being charged with possession of a weapon on school property.
