JSO: Arlington SWAT situation ends 'peacefully'

Just before 5:45 p.m., JSO warned residents in the area of the 1600 block of Mill Creek Road to shelter in place due to the SWAT incident.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla — The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said an Arlington roadway is reopening after it was shut down due to a SWAT situation Monday.

According to JSO, at around 3:30 p.m., an officer in an unmarked vehicle found a truck on Arlington Expressway that was involved in a carjacking in Georgia. When the officer tried to stop the vehicle, it fled. However, the JSO air unit was up and able to track the suspects down to the Mill Creek Apartment Complex, which is where two armed suspects held an employee hostage in a unit for about four hours before negotiators were able to get them to come out.

Latatiana Davis told First Coast News it was her uncle Bob, a maintenance worker, who was being held hostage by the two men. She is relieved he got out safely.

“We got him back in one piece – that’s not always the outcome of every situation. So, the fact that we will get another day with him and we get to smile at the end of this day – that’s a blessing all in all,” Davis explained.

Police have both suspects in custody tonight on various charges.
