A Jacksonville officer was taken to a local hospital after crashing into a car the Westside of Jacksonville Wednesday night, authorities say.
The driver who the officer hit was reportedly driving with a suspended license but was not injured in the wreck, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says.
The officer was responding to a call by security at Eureka Gardens who had an armed person in custody when the crash happened.
Police say the officer was heading west on Wilson Boulevard about to turn north on S. Lane Avenue before he'd activated his emergency lights and siren. The traffic light changed from green to yellow as the officer was turning. The patrol car failed to yield to a car with the right of way and smashed into it.
Alcohol did not appear to be involved in the wreck, authorities say.
