Man stabbed in Five Points; suspect calls himself 'The Tinman'

Jordan Chase White, 25, was stabbed by a total stranger near Birdies just before midnight on Sunday. He's now recovering at the hospital with stab wounds to his liver and kidneys.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Police are investigating a stabbing that happened outside a popular bar in Five Points.

Jordan Chase White, 25, was stabbed by a total stranger near Birdies just before midnight on Sunday. He’s now recovering at the hospital with stab wounds to his liver and kidneys.

“He was wearing a backpack and had a metal clipboard inside, which deflected the blade slightly and saved his life,” White’s girlfriend, Sharell Love said.

Witnesses told First Coast News the attacker had been showing off his knife to random people and that’s when they called the police. White was allegedly stabbed less than thirty minutes later.

“Jordan was asking the guy why he hurt him and the guy said, 'I’m the Tinman.' A lot of people told us that they’ve seen him before and it’s believed he has a mental illness,” Love said. “The man put something inside a white Volkswagon beetle, which was parked in front of Birdies, then he shut the door and walked away.”

Love said she doesn’t know if police have caught the man responsible. Meanwhile, Birdie’s management team told First Coast News the stabbing didn’t happen on their patio as witnesses had reported.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said they believe there is only one suspect. He was seen walking away near Wendy's on Park Street.

White’s employer, Orsay Restaurant, will be hosting a Memorial Day fundraiser to help cover White’s bills and medical expenses.

A GoFundMe account was created to help Jordan as well.
