JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A man is in critical condition and a woman believed to be his girlfriend was also injured Saturday after a fight turned into a shooting on the Southside, according to JSO.

Both a man and a woman were shot in the shooting and they were life flighted from one hospital to another.

The incident occurred at about 3:30 p.m. Saturday near the 2800 block of Belfort Road.

A JSO spokesperson told First Coast News residents in the area came outside their home to find a man being physically assaulted by a group of at least three men. They called police and the suspects allegedly started shooting a firearm at the victim and a woman believed to be his girlfriend as they were trying to escape the assault in a vehicle.

The residents in the area tried helping the man and his girlfriend following the shooting, but the woman drove the man to an area hospital. They were then airlifted to UF Health. The man suffered life-threatening injuries, the woman’s condition is unknown. They are believed to be in their 20s.
