Teen dies from gunshot wounds after shooting in Jacksonville's Mid-Westside

Initially, the victim's injuries were reported as non-life-threatening, but police say the teenage boy died from multiple gunshot wounds.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Jacksonville teen has died after a shooting in the Mid-Westside area Friday afternoon.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office first reported officers were investigating a shooting in the 1400 block of West 15th Street Friday afternoon around 2:30 p.m. Initially, officers found a teenage boy on the sidewalk suffering from injuries from several gunshot wounds that were believed to be non-life-threatening, according to JSO.

The Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department took the victim to the hospital, JSO said. Around 5 p.m., the victim's condition worsened, and he was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to JSO.

The JSO Homicide Unit responded and took the lead in the investigation, according to police.

 A few minutes before the shooting took place, a Shotspotter alert was received from a nearby location, JSO said. Detectives are now canvassing the area where the victim was found, as well as the location where the Shotspotter alert was received for video and evidence.

At this time, JSO said, there is no suspect information available.
