A local man shot his wife in the stomach - a wound she later died from - in their Melrose, Florida home on Saturday after an argument, authorities say.
Around 2:20 p.m., deputies were called to the home after being told someone was shot, says the Putnam County Sheriff's Office. They found 70-year-old Barbara Brown Steele with a gunshot wound to the stomach. She was rushed to UF Shands in Gainesville where she later died.
Detectives spoke to her husband, 68-year-old Eddie Henry Steele and after some investigative work say they believe he shot his wife after an argument somehow escalated while they were watching TV.
Eddie was charged with first degree homicide after Barbara died at the hospital - he was originally charged with attempted murder, but that was before she died.
He is at the Putnam County Jail.
