Flagler County deputies save overdose victim twice in 12 hours

A Flagler County man is lucky to be alive after he overdosed twice within 12 hours and was rescued by Flagler County deputies both times.

A Flagler County man is lucky to be alive he overdosed twice within 12 hours and was rescued by Flagler County deputies both times, according to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies were called to 88 Sloganeer Trail Saturday after a woman reported her friend, David Fisher was motionless inside his bathroom.

Fisher was found unconscious by deputies and only regained consciousness after he was administered three doses of Narcan. Fisher was rushed to Florida Hospital Flagler and was later discharged upon recovering from his overdose. Less than 12 hours later, deputies say Fisher was rushed to the hospital again after a second overdose in which he was once again revived by Narcan.

Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly says the incident highlights a serious problem within many communities.

"First responders give them a second chance by saving their life but there is no treatment for the addiction, so they leave the hospital and go and find another 'fix' and the cycle repeats itself," Staly said. "We need to work together as a community and state to make sure that more treatment is available for people who are struggling to overcome drug abuse."

Deputies responded to two more overdose calls after Fisher was treated for the second time. Narcon was used in those cases as well.

In 2018, FCSO has responded to 54 overdose calls and has administered Narcan dozens of times, according to deputies.
