Family seeking answers after hit-and-run crash on the Hart Bridge

A Jacksonville family needs your help finding the car and the person who nearly sent them off the side of the Hart Bridge Sunday night.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A Jacksonville family needs your help finding the car and the person who nearly sent them off the side of the Hart Bridge Sunday night.

The hit-and-run crash happened just after 7:30 p.m.

"A car side-swiped them that sent them into the outside guardrail," Mike Babb said. "They thought they were going off the bridge...and then they got slung back into traffic and hit the inside wall."

Mike Babb's sister, brother-in-law, nephew and his nephew's wife were in the SUV. The Sansing family was headed to a local restaurant to eat dinner after seeing a performance of Disney on Ice at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena in Downtown Jacksonville.

Babb said a car, which may have been a black PT Cruiser, veered into their lane on the bridge. His brother-in-law was driving.

"By the time he seen it, it was too late and he was on the horn trying to get the guys attention, but it was too late," he said.

Babb's sister, Debbie Sansing, received the worst injury.

"My sister is in the hospital recovering from a shattered hip," he said. "She had surgery yesterday. She'll probably be in the hospital for another week and then rehab for another two weeks after that."

But, the one concern that was on this family's mind is Jerica Sansing, who is pregnant.

"My nephew's wife is three months pregnant and thankfully the baby was ok," he said.

While the Sansing family recovers from their injuries, they just want answers from the person who was inside the car that hit them.

"We would just like to ask why you fled," he said. "If it was an accident, accidents happen. But, we just want to know why you left ... not even knowing the condition of the people in the other vehicle."

If you have any information, contact police.
