18-year-old in critical condition after shooting at home in Arlington area

Police say they are not looking for anyone else at this time, and that they believe this is an isolated incident.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — An 18-year-old has been rushed to the hospital in life-threatening condition after a shooting in the Arlington area Friday morning, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Billy Patterson says he got a call from a friend about a heavy police scene where his nephew lives, and he was concerned.

“I'm going wow. I’m not understanding this. I’m wondering what crime it could’ve been. My thoughts were racing through a bunch of scenarios like did someone get robbed," Patterson said.

Police say they responded to a call of a reported shooting around 8:29 a.m. in the 7200 block of Oakwood Drive. When they arrived, they found an adult male with a single gunshot wound to his upper body.

Patterson says he got a call from his sister saying that his great nephew’s friend accidentally shot himself.

Patterson is hoping for a fast recovery for the 18-year-old who was shot.

“I just hope that their friend and this young man that shot himself accidentally is okay," said Patterson.

At the time of the shooting, there were other occupants in the house who police say they are currently speaking with.

Police say they are not looking for anyone else at this time, and that they believe this is an isolated incident.

When asked whether this could be self-inflicted, police said the investigation is ongoing.
