Body found during SWAT situation in Sandalwood neighborhood

JSO said they responded to a domestic incident around 2 p.m. at home on the 2200 block of Cavalry Blvd .and learned that a husband and wife got into an argument.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The man who barricaded himself inside a home in the Sandalwood area for several hours Friday, causing a SWAT situation, is now in the hospital getting help, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. JSO also said police found a body on the property.

JSO said they responded to a domestic incident around 2 p.m. at home on the 2200 block of Cavalry Blvd .and learned that a husband and wife got into an argument.

They learned that the husband was armed and that he threatened to hurt officers if they tried to apprehend him, according to JSO. JSO said he then went inside locked himself inside the house.

JSO's SWAT team was called out to the scene around 3:30 p.m.

JSO said they were trying to communicate with the man and ensure his safety because he threatened to harm himself.

JSO said they weren't able to make contact with the wife and weren't sure if she was inside the home at the time. JSO said they did apprehend the son.

Police didn't identify the body that was found.

Cavalry Boulevard was blocked off the area at the 12000 block of Alden Road at Walkers Glen Lane. Neighboring homes were evacuated for a few hours.

Police said the husband surrendered around 6:45 p.m. and he was taken to a local hospital to get help.

After, JSO said those who were standing around waiting to get into their homes have returned to their homes. However, JSO said those who left the area are not being allowed back in.

During the press conference, JSO said they reached out to the Red Cross to provide assistance to those who did evacuate and have nowhere to go.

JSO said this is now a death investigation.
