JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - "I knew that I had friends with children in that school, that I knew teachers in that school and I don’t know if either one of us has fully processed this. We go from okay moments to not okay moments," Natalie Cordova said Tuesday.

She and her husband, Paul, live in Jacksonville currently but were in Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School's first graduating classes in the 90s. The Cordovas and other school alumni are trying to do their part to help the children at the school.

Horrified by what they saw happening at the school and knowing families that lost children, they wanted to help. Alumni quickly mobilized through groups online and here in Jacksonville alone, the Cordovas have already connected with 90 other alumni. The group has 11,000 nationwide.

"A lot of us in the group were surprised by how fast we were able to mobilize and help those impacted. I think a lot of the people are really commendable for being able to put their personal beliefs and ideologies aside and committing to being there for the students and faculty of the school," Paul Cordova said.

One of those alumni is the owner of Super Food and Brew, so Thursday night there will be a fundraiser with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the GoFundMe established by Broward County for Stoneman Douglas.

It is from 5-10 p.m. at Super Food and Brew in Downtown Jacksonville. It is open to the public.
