A remarkable seventh grader from the First Coast has already broken eight American records in weightlifting and and she's not even old enough to drive.
She set a new deadlift record of 242 pounds at just 13 years old. “If you asked me two years ago if I could have done this I would have said that I don’t even think it’s possible,” said the young powerhouse Katy Griffin.
Would you believe us if we told you Katy’s ranked number one in the nation in her age and weight division?
“I can say the first night that I came in here I back squatted 26 pounds, I remember it like it was yesterday and now my back squat is 225,” said Katy.
She said she couldn’t have done it without the help of her coach William Davis as Steel Mill in Fleming Island.
Together, they’ve been able to break 8 record so far. “Her level as fast as she jumped was something special,” said Coach Davis.
Katy also broke her own bench press record with 115 pounds making her the best bench presser in the country and she’s trying to encourage others to dream just as big. “You can do anything if you put your mind to it.”
