A 6-year-old boy was transported to the hospital and pronounced dead Thursday afternoon after playing with his 9-year-old sibling at the Huguenot Memorial Park beach.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, the younger child was playing at the beach with his older sibling when the older sibling notified their parents that their brother appeared to be in distress.

9-1-1 was called around 4:30 p.m. and the boy was transported to UF Health Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
