A major retail chain has officially announced plans to close all 257 of its cellphone focused stores and the decision will mean possible closures in Jacksonville.
According to a report filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Feb. 28, the tech-focused retail giant announced plans to close its stand-alone mobile stores by the end of May.
According to the report, the decision came down to "changing economics" in the mobile industry since Best Buy entered the standalone store market in 2006. The company said in the filing that integrating its mobile model into the core and online stores is more "economically compelling."
In closing all of these standalone mobile stores, that will possibly include the Best Buy Mobile store at the Avenues Mall, 10300 Southside Blvd.
