Tommy Smith traded out his Trenton Thunder bat boy jersey for a Birmingham Rumble Ponies jersey at the request of Tim Tebow.

According to The Trentonian newspaper, Tebow had met Tommy and said he loved his energy. At first Tommy was hesitant to switch teams for an evening, but eventually, he did.

“He’s really cool,” Tebow said. “I love it every time he gets a bat and he starts putting his hands up and getting crowd hype. It brings me a lot of joy to watch that and also watch the crowd react to him.”

Smith, 27, was featured by Barnabas Health in 2014 as part of the healthcare provider’s Special Olympics program. He also played for the New Jersey unified softball team at the 2014 USA Games hosted in Mercer County, reported the Trentonian.

Tebow said that Smith wanted to go to Birmingham and said he may be drawing up papers to make that happen.
