Deputies: 14-year-old arrested for making threats to shoot people at school
The Putnam County Sheriff's Office has arrested a 14-year-old, saying he made threats on social media about shooting people at Interlachen High School.
Deputies said the student goes to school there. They said they were notified of the student's posts from other students whose parents then reached out to school authorities and law enforcement.
The student was questioned then arrested. He was charged with a second-degree felony of written threats to kill or do bodily injury.
Sheriff Gator DeLoach released a statement in response to the incident:
"The safety of our children is our highest priority. We have, and we will continue, to take threats of this nature very seriously. Everyone, including this young man, must understand the consequences of misusing social media in this way."
