Ken Amaro started his journalism career at First Coast News (then knows as 12 News) in 1979. During his first decade, he received numerous awards including the Florida News Maker, Associated Press, and Florida Medical Association awards.
In 1980, Ken graduated from Jones College with a Bachelor's Degree in Broadcast Management. He has since earned two academic certificates from The Poynter Institute and in 2000 became a graduate of the FBI's Citizens' Academy.
In 1989, Ken was promoted to the On Your Side Consumer Reporter position, which he has held to this day. During this tenure he has reported on scams, swindles and rip-offs, and assisted viewers with problem solving. His slogan is " Don't get mad, Just say I'm Telling Ken."
He has been nominated for three Florida Emmy Awards, winning two. He has also won a National Gabriel Award, and in 1998 was named Consumer Advocate of the Year.
He received an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters Degree from his Alma Mater, Jones College.
Ken was born in the U.S. Virgin Islands, is married and the father of four daughters.
