HILLIARD, Fla. -- Three Nassau County children have been located safe Thursday night after Florida Department of Law Enforcement Missing Child Alert was issued for them.
Harley Wade, 1; Luke Wade, 2; and Henry Wade, 3, were found in Charlton County, Georgia.
The Florida Department of Children and Families had an order to take the children into their custody, according to Nassau County Sheriff Bill Leeper.
The Charlton County Sheriff's Office went to an address where the family was believed to be and they were found there.
According to the initial alert, the children were reported to be in the company of Amy Cline, 29, and Edward Wade, 31.
Three weeks ago, DCF got a tip that the Wade children may have possibly been abused or neglected, according to John Harrell of DCF.
During those three weeks of investigation, DCF found no evidence of abuse. For some unknown reason, the family stopped cooperating in the investigation on Wednesday, Harrell said.
DCF then got an order from a judge to pick the kids up and the family then fled to Charlton County.
Harrell said the children are safe and are now under the watch of Georgia's Division of Family and Children Services.
The decision on any criminal charges for the parents would be up to law enforcement. Harrell said the family fleeing to Georgia will weigh heavily in DCF's investigation into the family going forward.
